Born in 1952, Rashid Al Khalifa embarked on his artistic journey at the tender age of 18 with his inaugural solo exhibition held at the Dilmun Hotel, Bahrain, in 1970. His passion and talent for art took him to the United Kingdom in 1972, where he pursued further studies at the prestigious Hastings College of Arts and Technology in Sussex.
After returning to his homeland in 1978, Rashid Al Khalifa was deeply inspired by the artistic legacy of Europe’s greatest Impressionist masters. This inspiration became the foundation for his own artistic journey, leading him to create a mesmerizing series of paintings that beautifully encapsulate Bahrain’s landscapes. His works, characterized by their atmospheric portrayal of the desert, sea, and historical sites, were introduced to the world at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C., USA, and later exhibited at the Sheraton Hotel in Bahrain in 1982.
Rashid’s artistic evolution was marked by his exploration of various art movements and styles, including geometric abstraction, hard-edge painting, and colour field work.
