Royal Bridges was conceived by Rashid Al Khalifa in 2007 as an initiative bringing together members of royal circles from across the world in support of the World Food Programme. Realised in Dubai in 2015, the project unfolded as a carefully orchestrated gathering—part cultural exchange, part charitable endeavour—within a framework of hospitality, diplomacy, and artistic presentation.
As both instigator and patron, Rashid Al Khalifa played a central role in shaping the conditions through which the project came into being. The event extended beyond exhibition, encompassing a week-long programme that brought participants into a shared social and cultural space.
Within this context, his own contribution took the form of painting. These works operate with a quiet independence—neither illustrative nor ceremonial—but grounded in a sustained painterly practice. They stand alongside the larger initiative while maintaining their own internal logic and visual language.
This monograph revisits Royal Bridges not only as an event, but as a convergence of roles—artist, patron, and initiator—through which art becomes a vehicle for connection, generosity, and exchange.
