Kursalon, Vienna
From 11-15 September, 2024, the Kursalon in Vienna will host Particolare, a unique art exhibition presenting selected works in an institutional setting. Particolare offers a bold and multifaceted approach for art enthusiasts and collectors, presenting a plural view of time and motion through the diverse creations of contemporary artists.
At Particolare, clock time meets artist time, creating a rich dialogue between measurement and creation. And movement becomes the common thread running through a deeply immersive artistic experience.
Particolare is commissioned for Cluttech, an association based in Vienna which uses technology to develop a new approach to culture. The Salon differs from a classic art fair in that it showcases thoughtfully seleted works by a curatorial team, supported by the galleries invited to take part.
Particolare participates in the artistic expansion of Vienna and its energetic art week, thus joining in a creative way, the founding platforms of viennacontemporary and curated by.
Rashid Al Khalifa presents his Maze at Particolare. Maze (2018) is a testament to Rashid’s heritage and to the traditional architecture, of his home country Bahrain. Akin to of the meandering streets and narrow alleyways of the old town, Maze, recalls the traditional architectural feature the mashrabiya, a projecting oriel window enclosed with carved wooden latticework on the second or higher story of a building, its original purpose was to ensure privacy so the occupants could see out but not be seen from outside, whilst also providing shade and protection from searing heat and allowing a breeze to pass through.
Maze stands confidently in luminous homage to the vast network of hidden streets connecting traditional homes and villages across the island. The grid-like framework of partitions which constitute this entire structure, integrate colourful folds that are randomly positioned over specific sections of the trellis. Walking through this interactive structure, onlookers are both within and beyond its interior and exterior.
This work’s whimsical nature is appealing to children and adults alike, who quickly sense their participatory roles and its labyrinthic invitation to explore; creating its own aura through the synchronicity of the sounds, colours, movement and soft shadows emanating from the experience.
