Exhibition Catalogues

A selection of exhibition catalogues documenting key shows and projects

SPECTRUM
Liechtenstein Landesmuseum
2022

Spectrum presents a body of work by Rashid Al Khalifa exploring vertical folds, light, and colour within a structured visual language. The works are defined by parallel linear formations that interact with light, producing subtle shifts in colour and tone as the viewer moves around them.

Marking an early kinetic direction in the artist’s practice, these works engage perception through movement, where the surface appears to transform depending on angle and position. The compositions maintain a strong geometric order while introducing a dynamic relationship between form and experience.

Rather than depicting space, the works activate it, creating a dialogue between object, light, and viewer. As part of the archive, Spectrum represents a key moment in the development of Rashid Al Khalifa’s exploration of structure, perception, and spatial awareness.

Penumbra.
Textured Shadow, Coloured Light
2018

Penumbra: Textured Shadow, Coloured Light marks a significant development in Rashid Al Khalifa’s practice, where form, light, and space converge into parametric spatial structures. Moving beyond the object, the works operate as environments, shaped through modular systems that generate shifting fields of colour and shadow.

Here, light is not incidental but integral, activating each structure and producing subtle transitions between opacity and transparency. Surfaces dissolve into gradients of illumination, creating layered experiences that change with movement and perspective.

The works exist between sculpture and architecture, where geometry becomes a dynamic, parametric system rather than a fixed form. This volume captures a moment of expansion, as the artist’s language extends into immersive conditions.

Within the archive, Penumbra represents a decisive shift toward spatial and perceptual engagement.

NOMI
2015

NOMI presents a body of work by Rashid Al Khalifa developed in the context of the Biennale di Venezia, where identity, form, and spatial perception are distilled into a refined visual language. The title suggests notions of naming and presence, situating the work within a dialogue between the individual and the collective.

Through controlled compositions and precise geometric structures, the works engage light, reflection, and surface to produce subtle shifts in perception. The viewer encounters forms that are both defined and elusive, operating between material presence and conceptual resonance.

Positioned within an international context, this publication reflects a moment of clarity and focus in the artist’s practice, where reduction becomes a means of intensifying meaning.

As part of the archive, NOMI contributes to an ongoing exploration of structure, perception, and identity.

Rashid Al Khalifa
2015

This general catalogue brings together a selection of works by Rashid Al Khalifa, offering an overview of his artistic practice across different periods and mediums. It serves as a point of entry into the artist’s evolving language, presenting key works that reflect his sustained engagement with form, space, and material.

Rather than focusing on a single body of work, the catalogue situates multiple phases within a broader trajectory, highlighting the continuity and transformation that define his practice. From early painterly investigations to later structural and spatial developments, the works reveal a consistent exploration of geometry, perception, and surface.

Designed as a flexible and multi-purpose publication, this catalogue supports a range of exhibition contexts. Within the archive, it functions as a foundational reference, connecting individual projects within a unified framework.

Reflection
2012

Reflection presents a body of work by Rashid Al Khalifa in which chrome surfaces become the primary medium, transforming the artwork into a site of direct engagement. Through convex forms and mirrored finishes, the works reflect and fragment the surrounding environment, incorporating the viewer into the composition itself.

Here, reflection operates as both visual and conceptual device, producing shifting images that are continuously altered by movement and perspective. The surface becomes active, dissolving the boundary between artwork and space, presence and illusion.

Developed during a period of heightened social and political tension, the works carry an underlying sense of instability and awareness, where perception is constantly in flux.

As part of the archive, Reflection marks a decisive moment in the artist’s practice, where painting expands into participation and spatial experience.
